‘Steady deterioration’: US loses top credit rating

US credit rating agency Fitch downgraded Washington’s ‘long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating’ from AAA to AA+, citing issues with governance, rising deficits, and a looming recession, among other things.

Both the White House and the US Treasury Department raised objections to the decision.
