I've put a link to it in the description. So apparently Brides the largest UK based Bridal magazine will be printing it's last paper edition in November of 2019. Of course the magazine business is on it's last legs in general so this isn't all that shocking. But it's just one bridal business among many that have been suffering as the institution of marriage is breaking down. I'll share my thoughts about Brides Magazine and many other Bridal businsses in a moment but let me first tell you about today's sponsor The Snoop Detector: Anyways, now back to the Bridal Apocalypse as dressmakers and cakebakers go out of business. As many of you know I do occassional wedding photography. Although in the last few years it's been more Bar Mitzvah photography. The last major bunch of wedding I did was about a year and a half ago and most of the brides were older than the grooms and most were single mothers. Last year when I went to Miami I visited Viscaya house in Miami. I have yet to put that video on my Kool Buildings channel. While I was there I saw tons of photographers, about five or six in total taking bridal pictures. But the thing is there were no couples. It was just a girl or woman dressed up as a bride and the photographer. In all my years of doing this business, since the late nineties I've never had to work on building a portfolio to attract clients and I have to say that 2019 has been the worst year for wedding photography for a very long time. So I guess it's not just me but all those photomagogramers are also hurting for business. I do shoots for corporate events and musicians as well. But most of my work now is video. I wouldn't be able to survive if it was strictly photgraphy. So when I heard that another bridal magazine was going out of business that means less work for photographers that do that print magazine. Sure they will still take pictures online but Hearst UK closed their Cosmo Bride brand in 2011 and another publication called Perfect Wedding stopped last year. Brides USA also closed in August of 2019. In Minnesota a Bridal Consignment store that sells used wedding dresses and one woman named Nicole dropped off her dress in April and in six months later the dress and a few of the other things she tried pawning off are locked behind a closed door fo the brides to be consignment shop. Now they want their things back and will probably have to fish for them at value village. Besides consignment bridal shops and magazines even the major bridal stores like Alfred Angelo Bridal, which went under in 2017 they filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy to have time to liquidate their assets. They were in business for 80 years. The odds are also pretty good that the one of the biggest, if not the biggest, David's Bridal will go bankrupt sometime in early 2020. It has over 9000 employees and over 300 stores in the United States, Canada and the UK. I'm predicting that in the next ten or twenty years shopping for a wedding dress at a boutique store will be something that only the upper classes will be able to afford as the middle classes is increasingly disenfranchised and can't afford to get married. You know what? That's a good thing because it means less men will be screwed than ever.
