You have much to learn about the distilling scene, grasshopper. American single malt is a recognized category by the Beverage Tasting Institute. It may interest you to know that a Scotch has to spend a minimum of 3 years in a barrel, whereas an American single malt is not bound by such a rule. Two years is the standard that the BTI observes, however. Call all of these knowledgeable folks anal retentive if you must, but true whiskey aficionados DO know their shit, and can taste the difference. You would do well to research Swift and Del Bac, which are two excellent American single malt Scottish-style whiskies.
