Point #1: Money always prevails over morality. If we want animals to be slaughtered in a humane manner, we need to make it more cost effective to do so, not less.
Point #2: There is a scientifically proven direct correlation between how people treat animals & how people treat each other. Regardless of how you feel about animals being treated, don't be surprised when the normalization of animal torture results in humans feeling the right to brutalize each other.

i still eat meat, but i'm not in it for the torture. there are ways of killing the animal without making them suffer like this. this is just fucked up.

So wouldn't they taste better if not tortured to death jusayin. Like maybe givem a massage, take a nap, a drink of water. And gee completely disregarding profit how about kill them while they are on a cleansing Fast! Piss test em till all the bad tasting "toxins" are excreated. But no that would be way to expensive. Think of the children.
Then a quick Suprise death to minimize the shock and fear chemistry in the meat for taste say - lactic acid. Soon their robot overlords will see to the tastiest steaks and chops.
Maybe people have grown accustomed to eating terrified meat over the milenia. Who's to say.
