The socialists Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler preferred Islam to Christianity

In 1938, the dictator Benito Mussolini began to reaffirm his anticlerical stance. He sometimes referred to himself as a total nonbeliever and once told his cabinet that “Islam might be a more effective religion than Christianity” and that “the papacy was a malignant tumor in the body of Italy and should be excised once and for all, because there was no room in Rome for both the Pope and himself.”
In the same line of thought, the neopagan Adolf Hitler expressed similar admiration for Islam and a corresponding contempt for Christianity, asserting: “Had Charles Martel not been victorious at Poitiers — already by then, you see, the world had fallen into the hands of the Jews, so cowardly had Christianity become! — then, in all probability, we would have been converted to Mohammedanism, that cult which glorifies heroism and opens the seventh heaven only to the bold warrior. In that case, the Germanic races would have conquered the world. It was only Christianity that prevented them from doing so.”
Nevertheless, the propagandists of the National Socialist movement undertook to spread the notion of an Aryan Christ, in order to domesticate Christian worship in favor of the socialist system of power built around the party, with its racial rhetoric gradually seeking to absorb Christian elements. The universal Christ would be transformed into a racial Christ. The narrative echoed the claim that fascism and National Socialism represented a spiritual redemption of Europe against “atheistic Bolshevism,” without specifying exactly which spiritual tradition these movements supposedly belonged to — which, indeed, stood far from any Christian tradition, this one being fundamentally incompatible with both neopaganism and gnosticism.
Thus, it is no surprise that the socialist leaders expressed sympathy for Islam — a sympathy that, indeed, persists to this day.
