@03:34:29 FUN FACT: Slaves from the U.S., both chinese & african, back in the 1700s & 1800s would flee to Mexico/'New Spain' because one of the three laws written in blood is 'Anyone tha t sets foot on Mexico's soil is instantly granted their freedom.' The other two laws were established later on, I.e. 'Mexico is ALWAYS neutral unless directly attacked' & 'Effective suffrage, NO RE-ELECTION'.
As early as the 1500s, Mexico/'New Spain' took a very hard-line stance against slavery via 'La Ley de Burgos' [Burgos' law] which made it highly illegal for any of the Spanish to practice slavery or to otherwise continue any of the things the Aztecs had been doing. The law also gave natives property rights, free enterprise & the ability to marry whoever they chose. Of course since we're talking about the Spanish, in the 1500s no less, this was all conditional on them converting to catholicism but eh, it's a damn good deal however you look at it............... part of the reason for the conflict between Mexico & the U.S. was because Mexico refused to return slaves to the U.S. on the count of the absolute opposite Mexico has always had against slavery.
Don't get me wrong, Mexico/'New Spain' has always been *incredibly* corrupt right from the moment it was conceived by Agustin de Iturbide (Lol), but slavery is one of the very few things Mexico has never tolerated. Also do note that at this juncture, the U.S. has exceeded Mexico in terms of corruption..... by a lot even. GG.
