The World Hates the Disciples
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[a] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason. John 15:18-25...
My impression of the lead actor was that he did not project the persona in a manner expected.
One look at Powell(?) portraying the persona in 'Jesus Of Nazareth' (if I recall the title correctly), the 1970s era film, and it becomes clear that said acting is orders of magnitude superior to the more recent retelling.
Nuance is a skill not commonly practiced in present-era character portrayals.
Or so I opine.
IF Mary Magdalene did indeed looked like the actress, I would be compelled, whenever I saw her, to an involuntary, 'HAIL MARY!'. (This coming from essentially a monk. I suppose miracles can occur).
On a more serious note, in actuality, it is possible a 'cross' was not made for the cruxifiction, but, instead, as a matter of standard process, a beam of wood was carried by those designated for cruxifiction. Once at the site, the beam--along with the individual tied by the arms to said beam--would be hoisted up to a tree via a rope(s), said rope(s) being secured, and left to time and the elements till dead.
Of note: 'the cross' was NOT the original symbol of Christiany.
I am not a historian, despite my interest in the intricacies of some civilizations. However, that sign on the cross appears suspect, and I am quite certain Sharpie markers did not exist during the Roman Empire circa 2000 years ago.
Just an observation.
I tried my best not to shed tears.....I failed miserable....
