Trump Gets Raided by the FBI at the Mar-A-Lago: My Hot Take

Three possibilities:

1) It's what's written on the tin: he took the documents home with him in violation of the law. Dumb move on his part and it hands the Democrats the charges they need to prevent Trump from running for the Presidency again.

2) It's trumped-up charges (pardon the pun). No wrongdoing was committed. It's a set-up by the Democrats, desperate to score some points with their base ahead of the mid-terms ("See? We caught the bastard red-handed! Vote for us in November."). Even if it comes to naught and he's later exonerated, it effectively casts enough suspicion on Trump that the Republican Party is implicated through guilt by association in the minds of voters. The predicted Red Wave becomes muted, dulled, blunted.

3) Tin-foil hat conspiracy time: it's all part of a larger plan to sweep Trump into office. It's a nothing-burger, Trump is exonerated, no charges are brought. This accomplishes three things:

First, sympathy for Trump-the-victim to energize his base against those "evil Democrats", solidifying their conviction that Trump's their man.

Secondly, crushing disappointment on the part of Democrats who - disillusioned with their party's failure to nail Trump - decide to punish them by staying home and not voting in 2024.

Lastly, when the charges don't stick and the Democrats' corruption is so blatantly exposed, centrists may waffle come election time in 2024. They may not vote for Trump, but they won't vote for the Democrat candidate, either; they may vote for the Libertarian or do a write-in vote. Trump wins and serves his second term, all according to plan.

Either way, the political theatre is certainly becoming entertaining. Pass the popcorn...
