Turkey discovers naval mine floating near Bosphorous
Turkey's military has intercepted what appears to be an old naval mine floating near the Bosphorus strait, according to the country's Defense Minister. The object was first spotted by a commercial vessel, and an SAS team was quickly deployed to neutralize it.
The mine is thought to have been a Soviet-era model, a number of which Ukraine has reportedly placed along its Black Sea coast, and there have been reports of several mines detaching from their cables. Turkey has raised the issue of the mine with both Moscow and Kiev, but has not laid blame on either side.
Traffic is continuing 'safely,' but Ankara's agriculture ministry has issued a ban on night-time fishing in certain areas of the Black Sea, in light of the incident.
