Turkish vet saves family of dogs from landslide
A Turkish vet has saved a dog and her puppies who were trapped in a landslide.
Soner Büyümez was working on an orchard in a remote, mountainous district of Turkey when he heard a landslide… and a dog barking faintly in the distance. He and one of the guards, Mahmut Aşir, rushed over to find the dog buried up to her neck, caught by the landslide in the small burrow she had made a home in. Digging with a shovel, and then with their bare hands, they were able to pull the canine out, but she seemed just as distressed as before – her puppies were still trapped.
Two hours of frantic digging later, and eight puppies had been pulled from the earth. One sadly had already died, but the rest of the good boys were reunited with their mother.
Büyümez has decided to take care of them, at least for the time being. ‘Their general condition is very good. The mother and her puppies are protected,’ Büyümez said. ‘I will care for them as my own,’ he added.
