US plans to send Afghan refugees to the Philippines

Washington plans to send thousands of Afghan refugees to the Philippines, where they will be temporarily hosted as they wait to be processed for American citizenship.

The plan applies to those Afghans who worked for the US government or alongside American soldiers, or are relatives of those who did. The move comes as Washington has struggled to process a backlog of applications.
