I kind of like the idea of intermediate length semi auto 12 gauge shot guns - but they make a real mess.

But the idea of a semi automatic 0.22 - in mechanically set 3 to 5 round bursts, from a 30 round magazine, using subsonic solid point rounds, I think that is about as nasty as it gets. Short range, effective and very dangerous. You can start bringing a few people down and the others might not even know what is happening - and there is not much of a mess to clean up.
