If your family had camping tents,, you could have hammered the pipe ends down and cut a slot in them with a hacksaw.. for your front wheel axle.. then hammer the pipes down onto the bicycle forks,, instant chopper.. heh.. aand, the people with the bamboo . I think it was,, we would cut some stalks and make sails for our bicycles.. of course eddies dad was a fun oriented mechanical genius.. had ideas for us.. lol.. then as young adults we all liked old man ed alot.. He was always around it seemed . to drink a beer with us.. ya man.. Ed sr was my Dad's friend even.. first ride on a black cat mini bike at like 8 .. then there were empty grass fields next ddoor to little eddies grandmotehrs house on the street next to ours,, older eddie cut traiuls through the tall grass to ride little eddies mini bike through. .man so much fun.. old man ed even introduced us to control line cox models.. He was just too cool.. Ed leblanc from Boston..
My younger brother and I would be given some sandwiches and got our bikes out, met a couple like minded friends and we would go out as Mum and Dad went to work and cycle all round Kent, well locally or go to our Nan and Grandad on our bikes but we were home by Teatime, we used to build soap box go carts with bit's from the local dumb old bike wheels and friut boxes a few FREE nails from the Ironmonger's just to get rid of us! lol! Ah! great times, I'd be fucked today without all those memories, so thankyou Father Time for what I have received!
That's an old picture of Brighton, look at the bus, I think it's a Bristol Lowdekka? lol! Not Brighton and Hove but Brighton corps Blue buses! Hsng on I must remove my Anorak before I get to carried away! lol! Hum! Cortina Mk 3 must be the 1970's -Oh shit there I go again! lol! Look at that old Shop canopy don't see those anymore - Ah! OK I'll shut up! lol!
Hey Buddy we were probably the last REWAL generation that had a childhood with substance rather than substance abuse! lol! Yep we were VERY lucky a good number of use. You showed the Esso Gas station in the thumb nail, in 1961 through o 63 we had a Gas station in south Yorkshire near the coast in the middle of nowhere, great memories as I remember as a 5/6 year old. It was a SHELL/BP Solas station with a bungalow for us to live in and a fully fitted Cafe/ Transport Cafe that Mum ran with a friend. as a Kid me and my younger brother got to ride in lorries and even one day we got a ride i9nto Bridlington and back in a Scarab Armored car when the army pulled in. went to a small school house that doubled as a church hall inb a village called Speaton and I remeber riding to school on a big Blue and Cream midlands Bristol bus. Toys were basic but metal not often plastic, corgi Dinky, Matchbox, Budgie and if you were really luck an expensive "SPOT-ON" truck for christmas. Hell I could go on all night, but I'll tell you this it wasn't perfect but what happened then made me the person I am now - Totally GaGa!, nope I'm joking, I'm independent, Stoic, wise and don't suffer fools gladly. I often wonder what these poor little fuckers today will have to look back on in their old age if they make it that is? Will they remember their smartphone like we remember our first bike? or will a piece of soft where or MP3 player have the same effect that vinyl record's and corgi toys had on us?............................Nah! me neither. I also had a Dad and a Mum sadly She died quite young, But my Dad could be an asshole sometimes but I owe him like my mum such a lot that I still have today. they both taught me to FIX thing's and I fix and repurpose other people shit to this day saving a fortune. I'm artistic and creative like Mum, I'm Mechanically and hands on like my Dad was for all his faults. I'm reaching 70 this year and I still think of then and all the elderly family members now gone, and I'll tell you this, I feel privileged to have had the family I had that I LOVED and they LOVED me and my brother. Peace buddy! - I even return there in dreams sometimes and basically watch my family and myself from an invisible distance, yep! it's as real as this wake world but somehow better? we didn't have much least of all Money but we had a wealth of something? I know that!
