Intellectual Europeans tend to sneer at American religiosity, seeing Americans being several decades behind Europeans in terms of the level of belief in superstitions, 2000 years old, such as ideas like, life after death, virgin birth, resurrections, miracles, angels, etc. Europeans tend to see such ideas, as anti-science, and backward, and look down on Americans for holding such beliefs to a much higher degree than Europeans do. Bicoastal Americans talk about US "flyover states" i.e. the states that the bicoastalers fly over, i.e. ignore, due to the intellectual backwardness of the flyoverstaters. Bicoastalers are more in line with Europeans, in terms of their level of sneering at flyoverstaters in the US. Personally, as a European intellectual, when I hear Americans talking about God, and the like, I switch off, and my eyes roll, thinking, "For crissake, go travel yourself, broaden your tiny untraveled mind, and throw off your childhood religious brainwashing, that you didn't have the mental force to throw off as an adult!"
