He didn't give me a topic so I wanted to cover something that a guy named Andre brought to my attention that I thought would make a great topic. Andre shared a short video so let me play it first and then I'll come back and discuss it. (Insert Video) Welcome back. If anyone knows where I can get the full length one that would be awesome. So after watching that I cowered the internet to see if I could find any men from Iceland talking about what happened but I realized that most wouldn't talk about it because it's a small community where everyone knows everyone else. So if men were to publicly say that things improved when women weren't at work that day then why wouldn't the media say this because after watching this short video I also cowered the news sites looking to show how the economy improved when the women of Iceland went on strike but I obviously didn't find any of that because that goes against the narrative. This also isn't the first time that Iceland's women went on strike. The firist time 90% did it in 1975. They refused to cook, clean or work. This was after the first democratically elected female prime minister went into power in Iceland and in fact anywhere in the world. Back in 1975 the pay gap was 40% and today it's only 9% which is the lowest pay gap in the world. I say pay gap and not wage gap because for women there they want equal outcomes. But the fact that men actually got some work done without women there is a serious slap to the face. I shared an article that Andre sent me in the description about this from Bloomerg and in it it says this and I quote: "The main reason for the gender disparity in Iceland, according to Thorbergsdottir, is line of work, with female dominated sectors offering lower salaries. Another problem is that women bear more of the burden at home, including the mental load. “It isn’t women’s choice to work fewer hours than men,” she said. “It’s because they do more unpaid work.” Unquote. I'm sure they will eventually make a push to get paid for emotional labor. The real reason that women don't do as many hours of paid labor is because men typically work more overtime hours. Men find purpose in working and women are more likely to be more interested in finding purpose for the money they are making. A man afterall is a human doing and woman is a human being. Plus men need to make more money than women so we can attract them. It's called hypergamy and women want to be with men that are higher earners.
