You Are Not Your Brain Or Your Body by Tim Urban
I found this essay from 2015 but sadly, not a video, so I made it myself. If you're Tim Urban, feel free to copyright claim this video. I just thought it deserved a video.

Very few of the ideas or thought experiments in this post are my original thinking. I read and listened to a bunch of personal identity philosophy this week and gathered my favorite parts together for the post. The two sources I drew from the most were philosopher Derek Parfit’s book Reasons and Persons and Yale professor Shelly Kagan’s fascinating philosophy course on death—the lectures are all watchable online for free.

this guy is regurgitating arguments and ideas that have been pondered about for more than a millienia at this point by philosophers and theologians that had much more brain horsepower. We are really no closer to a defining answer of what consciousness or the soul is. There is no new information here but I can admit his write-up is a concise way to get a basic gestalt of the large philosophical approaches to the concept.
Sorry to ad homenin but this very guy Tim Urban has stated on multiple occasions that elon musk is his hero and he has done TED talks so to me it is clear that he is either being dishonest to seek financial gain or status, or he is very weak in his basic understand of the challenges posed to even suggest that elon musk can establish a mars colony when to date, they have not successfully returned a mason jar sized sample from mars, even that is a monumental task. Maybe they will get some crack rocks from the soil samples on mars so tim urban and musk can smoke them together because it might help both of them make more sense then they have been lately. regardless, his support of elon musk and his bs endeavors makes me very questionable of Urbans overall intelligence. Maybe he should rename his website to "philosophy for libtards."
He makes an entire article using philosophical arguments to apparently dismantle many of the arguments laid by materialists then makes use of the word soul as a way to try to define that which is immaterial, then at the end says he doesn't like the concept of souls?!? kind of a weird conclusion. There is something going on that is beyond the physical that we have not yet grasped or observed and we may never be able to. Scientist can put together all the components of a single cell organism using advanced chemistry techniques but they cannot get it to come to life. I believe there is something beyond what can be observed, something that is beyond what is material and that is why it is so difficult to define what "you" or "self" is.
I am watching the work of Max Tegmark, Stuart Hameroff, and Sam Parnia for any innovations or novel concepts but I won't hold my breath. It is possible that further research into NDE's and using new medical technologies to examine the brain may lead to some breakthroughs in trying to establish what consciousness is but only time will tell
Tfm should do 2 things, stay away from quantum mechanics and biology... wat a retarded bunch of crap like his physics (lol) videos.
What I took away is that Tim Urban is a shit head. The whole article deserves a point-by-point rebuttal, really, since there's just so much wrong with "logic" presented, from interchangeably switching definitions ("me" as self-awareness to "me" as viewed by others), emotional manipulation, non-sequiturs and more...
The worst of all is that all the points and ideas and mind experiments aren't novel whatsoever, just a rehash of things many others said before, from antiquity to modernity. The "Soma" game was released 2015 too, for example, and was presenting the same ideas in a much more depth. A GAME did a better job than Tim.
So smart. I love the intellectual stimulation. That’s why I watch TFM.
