Major US cities are ghost-towns. If you go to downtown Dallas on the weekend all you will see is homeless black people smoking crack.

Used to love living in SoCal (San Diego County) back in the '70s and '80s. After my discharge from the Marines, I temporarily sold bottled water door to door. Many of my suburban and rural customers had various fruit trees on their properties, and I was literally given shopping bags of tangerines, oranges, avocados, etc. Watermelon was only .06 p/lb at Albertson's, and I lived in a motel room, where I paid $283 p/month (with maid service), which was cheaper than an apartment in my hometown Chicago. Now, I'd be hard pressed to even VISIT, much less live there (or Chicago). I'd decline loads going to California (without a backhaul) before I decline loads to New York.
