One of the most important roles of an older sibling is to teach you stupid dance moves, and it seems bees are no exception to this. In a new study by the University of California San Diego, researchers have discovered that older bees teach the younger ones to twerk. Unlike humans, however, bees don’t do this because they are skanky thots. Instead, it’s a means of communication intended to signal the location of food.

The researchers observed a series of hives, and noted that baby bees begin to attempt this dance around a week after hatching. However, those bees with an older sibling to watch first did much better at the dance, with the self taught bees consistently making ‘significant errors in direction and distance.’
