Meranti - I guess it's an Australian wood, and I guess it also grows up through the Indonesian achipelligo - which is why they use it there, for boat building. It's as expensive as fuck though...

Yeah it's a fine design... - buzzing around all the aisian canals and rivers etc.. the family boat. very shallow draft, long, narrow, the two axis motor mounts for the stern drive... and the fin to protect the propellor to some extent, but from bottoming out on HARD objects... It's a really good design....
