Really? When has hypergamy become rampant prior to when women got the vote 100 years ago? Prior to that there was no welfare state anytime in world history so women couldnt be independant. As for not relying on welfare and supporting themselves without a husband, that has never happened in world history prior to post WWII technology, productivity and the rise of office jobs. I am very interested in learning about any society were hypergamy was rampant prior to 1920. No vote for women means no welfare state, no divorce rape, no easy jobs set aside for women, intact morals that shame promiscuity.
