The Marines also were the first Service Branch to have the Harrier, and later the Osprey aircraft, in their arsenal. All to support the Grunts (that's the Infantry in our language). We're all still basic Grunts, taught from Boot Camp.

I'm speaking as "former" Marine from the '70s. Perhaps the mission has changed since then, though I think The Grunts just have more toys to play with, while still accomplishing the mission.
