They wanted Bush (former CIA director) in '80, but he was a lousy, candidate, lacking any personality, compared to the charismatic Reagan, who won two consecutive elections in landslide fashion. Even a charismatic, corruptible Bill Clinton, with all his faults, kicked Bush's ass in the '92 election.
